Standard frameworks

In several countries, there are laws requiring companies and administrations to make their digital services accessible:

      • In Quebec: Government of Quebec Information Resources Standard, 0008 (SGQRI 008)
      • In Ontario: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
      • In France: General Accessibility Improvement Framework (RGAA)
      • In the United States: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
      • In Europe: European Accessibility Act (EAA), or the European Union's Directive 2019/882
      • At the international level:  Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

While these standards frameworks offer a goal of digital accessibility for organizations and their online platform, they are really a starting point, a minimum level required. This does not necessarily consider the complete and fluid usability of these platforms. Essentially, if all the standards criteria are met, but the site remains difficult to use with assistive technologies, it can still be considered compliant with the standards, but not fully accessible.
