Slow Down, it will be faster this way: Why Letting Ideas Marinate Leads to Better Execution
In today’s fast-paced world, we’re often pressured to deliver our ideas and products as quickly as possible. But rushing can actually have the opposite effect—it can create setbacks that delay execution.
Let’s take a moment. Slow down. Consider your ideas carefully. Align them with your business objectives. Then act with clarity and confidence to achieve success.
Give your ideas space to breathe.
Write them down—whether it’s a new concept, a strategy, or a big decision. Let them sit for 48 hours or even a few days. Then come back to them with a fresh perspective, after the initial excitement has settled.
By stepping back, you can evaluate whether those ideas still make sense and whether they still align with your original goals. Detaching from the emotional momentum of a new idea can help you make more rational, strategic choices.
And remember: (if!) you're not performing emergency surgery, it's okay to slow down.
Reflection is important, but don’t get stuck in the thinking phase. Once you’ve validated your ideas, be prepared to act decisively.
Having a clear plan helps prevent second-guessing during execution. Constantly questioning the delivery can derail a project and send it in an unintended direction. Of course, if risks arise, it’s important to stop and reassess—but do so with purpose and foresight.
Example:
You plan to launch a product in Montreal, then expand to Quebec. While discussing logistics, someone suggests adding Trois-Rivières to the launch. If you're not ready for that market, it's better to stay focused. Launch in Montreal, deliver what was planned, and reassess expansion after that phase is complete.
Regularly take the time to reconnect your business objectives with your overall strategy. This helps you ensure that what you’re doing still aligns with what you set out to achieve.
If your objectives have evolved, or changed significantly—ask yourself:
Does the current project still support my business goals?
Will this delivery reflect what I originally aimed to accomplish?
By staying in tune with your evolving goals, you’ll be better equipped to adjust, course-correct, and ultimately deliver projects that truly support your vision.
Taking time to pause, reflect, and align your actions with your strategy isn’t a delay—it’s an investment in successful, meaningful execution. It’s also one of the best ways to gain a deeper understanding of your business, especially in the fast-moving world of e-commerce.
