# Lesson 6 – How to Check the Accessibility of Your Digital Platform

The final step in the “Digital Accessibility Explained” journey is validation. How do you know whether your accessibility efforts are really working? The sixth lesson tackles this question by showing that proper validation needs to be tool‑driven, structured, and human.

The first layer is automated testing. Automated tools are very useful for quickly catching recurring issues: low contrast, missing alt text, missing headings, form errors, and more. They give you an initial snapshot, help you prioritize fixes, and let you track progress over time.

But tools have clear limits. They can’t judge how clear a label is, how logical a user flow feels, how cognitively demanding a page is, or how helpful an error message might be. That’s why automated testing always needs to be paired with manual reviews.

Key manual checks include:

- browsing your site using only the keyboard, without touching the mouse;
- using a screen reader to see how information is actually presented;
- verifying heading hierarchy and consistency;
- reviewing alt text, captions, instructions, and error messages for clarity and usefulness.

Ideally, accessibility validation also includes usability testing with people who have different abilities and who rely on a variety of assistive technologies. Their feedback often reveals barriers that neither tools nor internal teams had noticed.

Finally, this lesson emphasizes that validation shouldn’t be a one‑off exercise at the end of a project. In a constantly changing digital environment, each new feature, redesign, or major content update can introduce new barriers. Accessibility checks need to become part of your ongoing quality process.

By structuring your validation approach—combining automated tools, manual reviews, and user testing—you turn accessibility into a living, measurable, and sustainable practice. It’s no longer just an intention; it becomes something your users can feel every time they interact with your digital platforms.
