Today, we revisit Alex’s experience as he completed an observational internship at Ciao’s inclusive digital studio. Accompanied by his mother, Sana, who works at Ciao, we discussed this enriching experience.
Alex is following a French distance education program, equivalent to Secondary 4 in Quebec. As part of his studies, he needed to complete an observational internship in a company to explore different professions and familiarize himself with the working world.
Sana explains her choice: “What interested me was opening up Alex to the future. Digital accessibility and digital transformation are fascinating current topics. I noticed his interest in design and digital technology, so the idea of an internship here seemed relevant.”
Rather than a simple passive observation, Karine, the director of the Inclusive Digital Studio, wanted to offer Alex an immersive experience that would allow him to explore multiple roles within the studio.
During his internship, Alex participated in several meetings, including Scrum sessions, and had the opportunity to interact with various professionals. He discovered the roles of backend and frontend developers, analysts, and product managers. “They explained their jobs really well. I understood everything clearly, and it really impressed me,” he said.
Before his internship, Alex thought web development was simply a matter of dividing tasks among developers. He was surprised to learn about the distinction between frontend development (what the user sees) and backend development (data management and functionality). “I found frontend development more interesting because it focuses on the appearance of the site,” he shared.
Sana noticed significant changes in her son in just one week: “He became more punctual and learned how to better organize his schedule. He also now understands the importance of my work hours and values them more.”
The entire Ciao team enjoyed welcoming Alex and sharing their passion for their professions. “It was an honor to introduce him to the amazing careers within the inclusive digital studio. We hope to collaborate again in the future!” concluded the team.
Thank you, Alex! Thank you, Sana! We look forward to our next project together. Ciao Ciao!
