Choosing the right partner for your ecommerce platform

Now that you’ve studied the functionalities of your systems, analysed your business rules, and have a better understanding of the intricacies involved in getting your e-commerce site up and running, it’s time to choose the right partner to ensure that your project meets your expectations!

Choosing the right partner to meet your needs is key, but how do you ensure that the partner you’ve chosen truly understands your business? There are a lot of agencies to choose from, and each has its own specific strengths and specialisations. Looking at an agency’s website isn’t necessarily a reliable way to decide if they are going to be the ideal partner. Sometimes, you will meet with three or four agencies before ultimately finding your perfect match.

Let’s look at some of the ways you can ensure you’ve found a partner who truly understands the needs of your business and the services you offer.

Looking at their portfolio

Looking at the agency’s portfolio will give you a good idea of the types of projects they deliver. Are their past projects in line with the realities of your business model, and do they resemble the type of service your business offers? For example, if you are a business that offers wellness services, has the agency delivered a project that includes an online appointment system?

Don’t shy away from asking questions – and a lot of them

Now is the time to ask anything and everything. Asking an agency not just what they do, but how they do it, can give you confidence—not only in how you will work together, but also in gaining a better understanding of what the agency can or cannot do for your business. It’s better to ask questions at the beginning rather than in the middle of a project.

Take the time to read the fine print

Ultimately, there isn’t a system out there that doesn’t have its limits, and there is not a perfect agency. Be wary of any agency that claims they can do everything without issue—this simply isn’t true, and there is always the possibility of a problem arising during the integration process. It’s more about how the agency addresses the challenges that matter. Are they transparent? Are they working with their customers to find a workable solution?

Choosing an agency that offers the most expensive package (or the best deal!) doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best fit for your needs. Taking the time to read through the fine print of an offer and understanding what is and isn’t included, is one of the most important parts of making the right choice
